Zeng MushengDean

Responsible for overseeing the administrative operations of the college, including development planning and discipline construction, human resources, talent team building, talent development and educational reform, financial management, as well as international cooperation and exchange.

Professor Mu-Sheng Zeng is currently serving as the Dean of Zhongshan School of Medicine, SYSU since May 2026, and Deputy Director/Vice President of Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center since June 2013. In 2010, he was recognized as a Distinguished Young Scholar by the National Natural Science Foundation of China.In 2016, he was recognized as a Distinguished Scholar Professor by Guangdong Province. In 2018, he was elected Chairman of the 2024 Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma Gordon Research Conference. In 2021, he received the Young and Middle-Aged Expert Award for Outstanding Contribution to National Health. In 2024, he was elected President of the International Association for Research on Epstein-Barr Virus and Related Diseases. In 2025, he was elected as an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Academician of CAS). Professor Zeng has also served as Chairman of the Tumor Microenvironment Committee of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association and Director of the Tumor Immunity and Vaccine Engineering Technology Research Center of Guangdong Province. His research has been supported by two National Key Research and Development Programs, as well as several major National Natural Science Key Projects. He has published more than 60 papers as a corresponding or co-corresponding author in leading international journals, including Nature, Nature Microbiology, Cell Host & Microbe, Cell Research, Cancer Cell, The Lancet Digital Health, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, and Journal of Clinical Investigation. He was recognized as an Elsevier Highly Cited Researcher, with an H-index of 70. As the principal investigator, Professor Zeng has received numerous awards, including the Second Prize of the National Natural Science Award (2023), the First Prize for Excellent Scientific Research Achievements in Colleges and Universities (2022), the First Prize of the Natural Science Award of Guangdong Province (2018 and 2023), and the First Prize of the Science and Technology Award from the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association (2019). Three of his studies have been included in international virology textbooks. Professor Zeng’s team has made significant contributions to the field, including the discovery of the first epithelial cell receptor for Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV), the elucidation of novel mechanisms of EBV infection and carcinogenesis, the establishment of an innovative EBV vaccine system, and the development of multiple candidate EBV vaccines. Additionally, his team identified a new subset of epithelial-immune dual-feature tumor cells in EBV-related nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). 

Hao YajuanSecretary of the Party Committee

Responsible for leading the work of the College Party Committee, including party building, cadre management, publicity, united front, archives, confidentiality, letters and visits, trade union, staff and workers' congresses, services for retired personnel, alumni relations, and the Party and Administrative Office.

She is fully responsible for the work of the Party Committee of the college and presides over the meetings of the Party Committee. She also serves as the member of the united front. Her main responsibilities include being in charge of the Party building, Party affairs, cadre and ideological and political work, publicity work and united front work of the college, presiding over and participating in the joint meetings of the Party and the administration of the college to discuss and make decisions on major work of the whole college, and handling emergencies properly. Meanwhile, according to the tasks of the Party's work in each period, she publicizes and organizes Party members to study the Party's lines, principles and policies. She understands and grasps the ideological situations of teachers and students inside and outside the Party, puts forward opinions and suggestions on ideological education based on the actual ideological situation of the unit, and makes full use of various media to do a good job in publicity work in multiple forms.
Hao Yajuan, female, graduated from Sun Yat-sen University. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1995 and a Master of Economics degree in 1999. She has worked in Lingnan College and the former School of Engineering successively. She served as the Deputy Director (Deputy Chief) of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange (Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office) in January 2006, the Deputy Director of the Graduate School and the Director of the Graduate Enrollment Office in May 2013, the Director of the Graduate Management Office of the Graduate School in September 2015, the Secretary of the General Party Branch of Boya College in January 2016, and the Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Physics and Astronomy in November 2018. Since January 2024, she has served as the Secretary of the Party Committee of Zhongshan School of Medicine, SYSU.

Tian GuobaoVice Dean

In charge of human resources and talent team building.

Tian Guobao, PhD, Second-Class Professor and Doctoral Supervisor. He holds multiple concurrent posts: Executive Deputy Director of the Medical Education Office, Vice Dean of Zhongshan School of Medicine, Vice Chairman of the Academic Committee of the Medical Division, Permanent Expert Member of the Interdisciplinary Academic Committee, and Deputy Director of the Key Laboratory of Tropical Disease Control (Ministry of Education).He is a recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars, and the Guangdong Provincial Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars.From 2015 to 2026, he successively served as Secretary of the Party Branch of the Department of Immunology and Secretary of the Communist Youth League Branch of Zhongshan School of Medicine, and Secretary of the Party Branch of the Department of Microbiology. As a member of the 9th batch of cadres dispatched to Xizang by the Central Organization Department, he took a temporary post as Vice Director of the Medical Division and Dean of the School of Medicine at Xizang Minzu University. He also held the positions of former Vice Dean, former Dean of the School of Medicine and Deputy Director of the Medical Education Office. He served as the Vice Dean of Zhongshan School of Medicine, SYSU in May 2026.

Zhou JiaguoVice Dean

In charge of development planning and discipline construction, postgraduate education, scientific research, and academic exchange.

Zhou Jiaguo, a Doctor of Medicine, a professor and a doctoral supervisor. He graduated from Wannan Medical College and obtained his Bachelor's degree in 1994. He obtained his Doctor's degree from Sun Yat-sen University in 2004. From 2007 to 2008, he engaged in postdoctoral research in the United States. In December 2008, he was hired as a professor and a doctoral supervisor in the Department of Pharmacology of Zhongshan School of Medicine, SYSU. He was awarded the title of the author of one of the 100 outstanding doctoral dissertations across the country in 2006. In the same year, he was rated as an outstanding talent in the New Century by the Ministry of Education. He was hired as a Distinguished Professor of the Pearl River Scholar Program in Guangdong Province in 2013, received the funding of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 2015, and won the title of the leading scientific and technological innovation talent in the Guangdong Provincial "Special Support Plan" in 2016. He served as the Vice Dean of Zhongshan School of Medicine, SYSU in July 2018.

Deng KaiVice Dean

In charge of financial management, scientific research laboratories, international cooperation and exchange, medical public platforms, and forensic identification centers.

Deng Kai, a Doctor, a professor and a doctoral supervisor. He graduated from Sun Yat-sen University in 2005 and 2008 and obtained his Bachelor's and Master's degrees successively. He obtained his Doctor of Molecular Biology and Genetics degree from the School of Medicine of Johns Hopkins University in the United States in 2014. From 2014 to 2015, he engaged in postdoctoral research at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute in the United States. In March 2015, he was hired as a professor and a doctoral supervisor in the Department of Immunology of Zhongshan School of Medicine, SYSU. He served as the Director of the Department of Immunology of Zhongshan School of Medicine in November 2018. In November 2019, he served as the Assistant to the Dean of Zhongshan School of Medicine. In January 2020, he was appointed as the Vice Dean of Zhongshan School of Medicine, SYSU. He was hired as a Young Scholar under the Reward Program of the Ministry of Education in 2019.

Guo KaihuaVice Dean

In charge of undergraduate education and undergraduate admissions promotion.

Guo Kaihua, a Doctor of Medicine, a professor and a master's supervisor. He graduated from Gannan Medical College and obtained his Bachelor of Medicine degree in 1997. He obtained his Master of Medicine degree from Sun Yat-sen University in 2003 and stayed at the university to teach in the Department of Human Anatomy in the same year. He obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree in 2010. From March 2013 to July 2014, as a cadre of the 7th batch of cadres sent by the Organization Department of the Communist Party of China to support Xinjiang, he went to work at Xinjiang Medical University. In June 2015, he was appointed as the Assistant to the Dean of Zhongshan School of Medicine, SYSU. In September 2025, he was appointed as the Vice Dean of Zhongshan School of Medicine, SYSU.

Li ShiyangDeputy Secretary of the Party Committee

In charge of student affairs in Shenzhen, informatization, archives, confidentiality, and letters and visits.

Li Shiyang, Teaching Assistant. He graduated from Zhongshan School of Medicine, Sun Yat-sen University, and was awarded his Bachelor of Medicine in 2007 and Master of Medicine in 2010. He has worked in the Office of Development and Planning and the School of Medicine successively.He was appointed Deputy Section Chief of the Discipline Construction Section, Office of Development and Planning in March 2014, Director of the Party and Administrative Office of the School of Medicine in October 2016, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Medicine in May 2020, and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Zhongshan School of Medicine in May 2026.

Chen BaoyuDeputy Secretary of the Party Committee

In charge of student affairs in Guangzhou, alumni relations, and the Working Committee for the Care of the Next Generation.

Chen Baoyu, a member of the Communist Party of China and an assistant researcher. He graduated from the School of Life Sciences of Sun Yat-sen University. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in 2009 and a Master of Science degree in 2013. He once went to the First Senior High School in Chengjiang County, Yunnan Province to teach as a volunteer for one year. He has worked in the School of Information Science and Technology of Sun Yat-sen University, the Policy and Regulation Department of the Office of Development Planning, the Department of Party Committee Student Affairs, and the School Trade Union successively. He was seconded to work in the Department of Development Planning of the Ministry of Education for one year. He has won honors such as Outstanding League Member of Guangdong Province and Annual Figure of Sun Yat-sen University Students. The projects he applied for have been rated as the Excellent Project of University Counselors' Work across the country and the Excellent Typical Case of National Consumption Assistance to Help Rural Revitalization. He has participated in many projects at or above the department and bureau level and participated in the compilation of many monographs.In August 2023, he was appointed as Deputy Party Committee Secretary of Zhongshan School of Medicine, SYSU.

Zhao WenjingAssistant to the Dean

Assist in the management of scientific research and graduate education.

Zhao Wenjing, Professor and Doctoral Supervisor. She is a recipient of the Young Scholars Program under the National Major Talent Project. She obtained her doctoral degree from the University of Rhode Island, USA, in 2014. From 2014 to 2018, she carried out postdoctoral research at Harvard Medical School. She joined Sun Yat-sen University at the end of 2018. In January 2024, she was appointed as the Assistant to the Dean of the School of Medicine, Sun Yat-sen University, SYSU. In May 2026, he was appointed as the Assistant to the Dean of Zhongshan School of Medicine, SYSU.

Zhang XingdingAssistant to the Dean

Assist in the management of undergraduate education.

Zhang Xingding, Professor and Doctoral Supervisor. He earned his Doctorate in Pharmacology from Soochow University in 2011. Afterwards, he conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and later served as an Assistant Professor at Northwestern University. He was recruited under the "Hundred Talents Program" of Sun Yat-sen University in 2017. In September 2018, he was appointed as the Assistant to the Dean of the School of Medicine, Sun Yat-sen University, SYSU. In May 2026, he was appointed as the Assistant to the Dean of Zhongshan School of Medicine, SYSU.

Ding TaoAssistant to the Dean

Assist in the management of undergraduate research and undergraduate exchange programs.

Ding Tao, a professor and doctoral supervisor. He was recruited as a talent by Sun Yat-sen University and is a recipient of the National High-Level Talents Young Scholar Program. He graduated from the University of Science and Technology of China with a bachelor's degree in 2006 and obtained his Ph.D. from Oklahoma State University in 2012. From December 2012 to March 2014, he conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Michigan, and from April 2014 to 2018, he completed his postdoctoral research at New York University.In May 2025, he was appointed as the Assistant to the Dean of Zhongshan School of Medicine, SYSU.

Pan ChaoyunAssistant to the Dean

Assist in the management of human resources, talent team building, and scientific research laboratories in Guangzhou.

Pan Chaoyun, a professor and doctoral supervisor. He graduated from Nanjing University with a Ph.D. in 2016 and conducted postdoctoral research at Emory University in the United States from 2016 to 2020. He was recruited as a talent under Sun Yat-sen University's "Hundred Talents Program." He has led projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China's Outstanding Youth Science Fund Project and General Program, and serves as a standing committee member of the Metabolism Professional Committee of the Guangdong Anti-Cancer Association, the deputy director of the Youth Committee of the Guangdong Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Society, as well as an associate editor for journals including BMC Biology and Scientific Reports.In May 2025, he was appointed as the Assistant to the Dean of Zhongshan School of Medicine, SYSU.

Ding XinAssistant to the Dean

Assist in the management of financial management, international cooperation and exchange, scientific research laboratories in Shenzhen, and medical public platforms in Shenzhen.

Ding Xin, Professor and Doctoral Supervisor. He received his Bachelor's degree from Xi'an Jiaotong University in 2008 and his Doctoral degree from the National University of Singapore in 2014. From 2014 to 2017, he undertook postdoctoral research at A*STAR. As a recruited talent of Sun Yat-sen University, he was selected for the Outstanding Young Talents Program of Guangdong Special Support Program and listed among the World's Top 2% Scientists. In July 2025, he was appointed as the Assistant to the Dean of the School of Medicine, Sun Yat-sen University, SYSU. In May 2026, he was appointed as the Assistant to the Dean of Zhongshan School of Medicine, SYSU.
